Satya Narayan Shukla v. State of Uttar Pradesh 2026 INSC 583 - Land Acquisition - Sanyasi - Chronic Litigant

Sanyasi - Sanyas is the fourth and final stage in the traditional Hindu system of life stages, typically characterized by renunciation of material desires, family ties and worldly ambitions. [Context: The applicant, a self‑professed Sanyasi, repeatedly approached the Supreme Court challenging the acquisition of his land for a village road, despite having already been allotted a larger alternative plot and having received about Rs. 7,58,575 as compensation. The Court noted that he has constructed an Ashram and temple on the alternative land, that his grievances about allotment and compensation have been finally adjudicated through earlier SLP, review, writ and contempt proceedings, and that he has become a chronic litigant. In these circumstances, the Court dismissed the present miscellaneous application (without costs, only because he is now a Sanyasi) and directed that no further litigation on this subject matter shall be entertained by any court in future.]
